The Beatles – The Decca Audition (TOCP-6211, Japanese edition).
New Year’s Day! – The Decca Audition (01.01. 1962).
This disc (Bootleg) is considered rare and interesting at the same time, taking into account the phase and the time of its recording.
Today, pass-55 years from the date (01.01.1962) where the Beatles made a hearing test for Decca Records. After this test, the label rejected the Beatles, saying that “guitar groups were to fall into disuse” and “the Beatles had no future in show business.”
The band had its beginnings in the late 50s in 1962, signed a contract with manager Brian Epstein, who changed the look of the band, replacing the leather clothes for formal attire. Later, but still this year, Ringo Starr is invited to join the band as a drummer, replacing Pete Best.
Thus, the New Year’s Day (01/01/1962), day of the hearing on Decca, is actually a very special date in the career of this iconic British group.
The 15 songs recorded at that hearing, as this disk, were never officially released as a formal label album, except as “Bootleg” (same as “The Silver Beatles”) or in individual tracks, set some compilations.
Registration is historically important, since it reproduces the first recordings with some quality group. It also reminds us that Pete Best was at that time, the band’s drummer.
