Santana is an American band led by Carlos Santana whose style is a fusion of rock and Afro-Latin rhythms. The band is formed by a variable number of musicians accompanying guitarist and Mexican composer Carlos Santana since the late 60. As the Santana himself, the band is known for helping to spread the “latin rock” around the world .
The group was formed in 1967 in San Francisco, has been best known for his participation in the 1969 edition of the Woodstock Festival.
The first lineup consisted of own Carlos Santana on lead guitar, Tom Fraser on rhythm guitar, Mike Carabello on percussion, Rod Harper on drums and percussion, Gus Rodriguez on bass and Gregg Rolie on vocals and keyboards. In the following years, the group members have been replaced with some frequency, for various reasons, and there was a short interregnum from 1971 to 1972, due to a short break between the group and Carlos Santana.
Em 1998 o grupo foi aceite no Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
